Public Information
The public information office increases
public awareness of health department issues, services and programs
through strategic use of a variety of techniques including, but not
limited to, media coverage and public relations.
Further,
the public information officer assists the Hamilton County Executive’s
office in publicizing a variety of issues and events that affect
Hamilton County Government as a whole. For example, public information
oversees production of a newsletter, County Fare, that is distributed to
all county employees.
At
the health department, the public information officer serves as a
liaison between the media and health department personnel. The office
assists health department personnel in increasing public awareness of
issues that affect community health and wellness, and also helps news
organizations obtain information needed for stories on public
health-related issues.
To
ensure that information provided by health departments across the state
is consistent, the public information works on an as-needed basis with
regional and state Public Affairs personnel.
The
public information officer also helps health department personnel create
fliers, brochures, posters and other graphics materials needed to
promote programs.
