 Best Start 

The Best Start program is designed to encourage and promote the health, psychological, and economic benefits of breastfeeding.   Based in the WIC clinics, trained health professionals educate women about breastfeeding so that they can make informed choices on how to feed their infants.

 

Best Start activities include working with: 

A.  Pregnant and breastfeeding women: 

  •    Individual assessment and education

  •    Breastfeeding peer groups-- discussions and support

  •    Postpartum support through hospital, home, and clinic visits

  •    Breast pump loan program 

B.     Health care professionals: 

  •       Breastfeeding education and training for nutritionists, nurses, physicians

  •       Consultation on breastfeeding issues

C.     Community 

  •       Health fairs and presentations

  •       Information about corporate lactation program

The main goal of the Best Start Program is to assist and support women with breast feeding.  A lactation consultant is available to assist women with any breast feeding issue or problem.   Call 209-8321 or 209-8220 for assistance.
