HUGS Program

“Help Us Grow Successfully”

HUGS is a home-based prevention and intervention program targeting first-time pregnant girls/women. Prenatal/postpartum women are provided services to prevent or reduce complications of:

  • Pregnancy
  • Subsequent unplanned pregnancies
  • Low birth weight babies
  • Developmental delays in unborn children
  • Maternal and/or infant morbidity and mortality

Regular home visits are made by a nurse, social worker or social counselor to conduct periodic developmental, behavioral, and nutritional assessments. The HUGS staff focuses on parenting skills and safety issues and assists the client in accessing and utilizing appropriate health care and other social educational services through coordination and collaboration with community resources.

Referrals to the HUGS Program are made by physicians, hospitals, social agencies, clinics, family members, friends, and by self-referral.
