TNSTRONG (Tennessee Stop Tobacco and Revolutionize Our New Generation) is a state-wide, tobacco-free advocacy youth group, created by the Tennessee Department of Health, with a mission to make the next generation of youth tobacco free. The students are trained to be leaders in their schools and educate their peers on the dangers of tobacco and e-cigarettes. The TNSTRONG youth group is active in all 95 counties of Tennessee, with our local chapter coordinated by the Hamilton County Health Department.

When did TNSTRONG Began?

TNSTRONG began in 2016 at a statewide conference where the teens came up with the name and mission themselves. The students returned from the conference inspired and ready to begin their first project in their respective home towns. The Hamilton County TNSTRONG youth wanted to advocate for change in the Hamilton County Schools’ tobacco policy. After requesting and being granted a meeting with the local board of education and elected officials, the youth were able to have the policy revisited and updated. As a result of their activism, all Hamilton County Schools now have tobacco free campuses, prohibiting all tobacco and tobacco products, including smokeless tobacco, electronic cigarettes (vaping), and all associated paraphernalia on all property of Hamilton County Schools.
