What is Hepatitis C?

Hepatitis C is a liver infection caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV). Hepatitis C is spread through contact with blood from an infected person. The majority of people living with hepatitis C are not aware of it because they do not have symptoms. Even without symptoms, hepatitis C can cause permanent damage to the liver and could lead to cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer.

Getting tested can help people learn if they are infected and get them into lifesaving care and treatment.
